Book Review: John Adams by David McCullough

John Adams is one of the most underrated and overlooked members of the founding generation. Historically he has been seen as the first Vice President and second President of the U.S.A. McCullough digs deeper to reveal a great man with human flaws who did historic things. He defended British soldiers after the Boston Massacre; he was the spearhead to choose George Washington as leader of the Continental Army during the Revolution; he gave Thomas Jefferson the spotlight to write the Declaration of Independence. That is only the shortlist. McCullough makes him more than the stale figure he has often been portrayed as and gives him life, especially through his relationship with his wife Abagail Adams. McCullough's biography is another triumph for him and helped bring about a new discussion of Adams' importance.
